Bo Shin Myeong Ga: The Taste of South Korea in South Jakarta

The most awaited time of the day during Shaum is “Iftar” (fast breaking). Especially in the first week of Ramadhan month,  I tend to look for something special for Iftar. Since the second day of Shaum is on Friday, I thought it would be nice if I had a special meal for Iftar. So,  after work, Nanda, Rendy, and I decided to look for delicious Korean food near our place. I remembered that I once ate in a Korean restaurant on Jalan Margasatwa called Bo Shin Myeong Ga. So, we drove our car to Bo Shin Myeong Ga. When we arrived, we saw a Korean uncle (Aboji) stood up beside the entrance door. When we came in he immediately smiled and welcomed us. He called one of the waitress to get us to an available table. We observed the place for a while, and found out the place is pretty nice, with wood-dominated ambiance and some Korean wall decorating. But, it was not only the decoration that gives Korean atmosphere, most customers in the restaurant were Korean! We were the only Indonesian customers there. After we were seated and ready to order our meal, I asked the waitress, who was the Aboji that welcomed us, and she answered he was the owner of the restaurant. We were pretty amazed knowing that the owner himself welcomed us to his restaurant.

We had a tough time deciding what we were going to eat because everything in the menu looked yummy. At the end, we finally chose Kimchi Jeongol (a bigger portion of Kimchi Jigae) and Honje-ori Ssambap. Kimchi Jigae or Kimchi Jeongol or Kimchi Stew is the most common Korean stew made with fermented kimchi, pork-belly (but in Indonesia it’s usually replaced by beef since Indonesia is Muslim-dominated country), and tofu. Kimchi itself is a traditional fermented spicy-and-sour Korean side dish made of vegetables with a variety of seasonings. While Honje-ori Ssambap is smoke-roasted duck with Ssambap eating style. Ssambap is a country style Korean food which uses fresh vegetables to wrap the rice and the duck together. To eat Honje-ori Ssambap, we must first take the lettuce and the leaves, put the rice and the duck in the lettuce and leaves, put some sauce or wassabi in it, then wrap it together, and eat it with one big bite. Yums!

While we were waiting for our meals to be served, like any other Korean restaurants, the Banchan is served on our table. Banchan is also known as Korean side dish. It’s usually given free when we order the main course. We got gu-cheop banchan yesterday, which means we got 9 small portions of banchan. It didn’t take a long time until our meal were served. We were ready to eat!!

The foods are awesome! We could say that this is the most authentic Korean restaurant we have tried so far. The Kimchi Jeongol portion is so huge, even Rendy who has ‘elastic stomach’ gave up to finish it. The spicy-and-sour taste of Kimchi Jeongol is just uh-oh baby so suites our taste! The Honje-ori Ssambap was also such a mouthgasm experience. The roasted duck is so perfectly cooked and tender while the Ssambap is so fresh. The sauce also bring the taste to a higher level of delish.

We were enjoying our food when a Korean aunty (Omoni) wearing apron came to our table. Nanda who can speak Korean said something in Korean with the meaning “the food is great” to the Omoni. The Omoni looked surprised and even asked whether Nanda is Indonesian or not (well,  in fact Nanda doesn’t look like Indonesian at all). We found out that the Omoni is the chef and also the owner of the restaurant (which means she’s the Aboji‘s wife). It’s such a pleasure for us to have the owners welcomed us in their restaurant and treated us really well. Even the Omoni added our Kimchi Jeongol twice! No wonder even Rendy couldn’t finish the whole portion.

Faces are censored!

Bellow is the video of us enjoying our meals in Bo Shin Myeong Ga!

After we finished our meals, the waitress came and offered us the dessert consist of some slices of yellow watermelon and Ogamcha, a traditional Korean drink with alder, licorice, chaga and ginseng. Such a sweet completion to close our dinner.

We went to cashier to pay for the foods and we met the owners again. We asked them to take a picture together, they were very welcomed and helped us to find the best spot to take the picture. We had a nice chit chat before leaving, they also gave us a very short Korean course! Hahaha! Finally, it was time for us to go home. The Omoni and Aboji took us to the car and waved goodbye as we left the restaurant.

It was such a wonderful South Korea experience in South Jakarta. With its’ nice ambiance, delicious food, great service, and friendly owner, I think it’s not exaggerating if I say that Bo Shin Myeong Ga is one of the best Korean restaurants in Jakarta!

Continuity vs Flow

So here it goes the battle of Continuity and Flow! Continue reading

It’s Been A While, Dear Manga…

Sepertinya saya udah lama banget nggak peduli tentang dunia manga. Apple New Breakthrough: iOS 7

It has been a week since the beta version of apple’s iOS 7 launched. It brings so many pros and cons since its first launched in WWDC. The most unique thing about the pros and cons is it doesn’t happen between apple fans vs android or windows fans, but it happens between the apple fans itself, started from a blogger like me up to the app developer thing. Well, who am I gonna judge about this? I am not a tech geek, just an ordinary apple fangirl who loves apple since 2007. But since now internet is an open discussion and wordpress is a blog open-source, why don’t I write my point of view about this radical change called iOS 7?

It is not love at the first sight Continue reading

What I Think (or Feel?) about Apple after Jobs

I am a huge fan of apple since the first time I saw iBook (apple’s notebook before macbook generation). Then I bought my very first apple product, my macbook white in 2008. The next thing I bought was the iPod Nano 4th gen in 2009. I bought a macbook pro for my brother in 2011. And then I got my iPod touch 4th gen in 2012. That’s all. I only have these 3 apple products in 4 years. But I never miss any updates from apple. And I hopelessly cried when I heard Jobs were passed away.

Since one of the best re-inventors in this world has gone, people might not noticed but apple has changed.

Yes it has changed.

It stops re-inventing something. Let’s see the re-invention things Apple has made before now:

I believe people knows that apple is not the first company who made the music player. We had discman and walkman back then. And apple offered something more than what discman and walkman could give. You can store any song you want, in a music player called iPod. Apple re-invented music player.

iTunes is not the first music player software ever. But again, it offered you something more. You can buy your favorite songs in it. No need to buy CDs. Just click, buy, and download. Apple re-invents a unification of music player and music store in one software called iTunes.

Again, apple is not the first company who made cell phone or touch screen phone or smartphone. We had Sony Ericsson P-series before it, we had Nokia communicators, we had blackberry, we had other. But apple had successfully made a new concept of touchscreen phone with no stylus. It also still give one of it specialties: multimedia, in its smartphone. Apple is not the first one but apple reinvents it.

We’ve known kindle or Fujitsu’s tablet before we’ve heard iPad. But apple change the tablet function itself not only for works or reading e-books but also for multimedia, productivity, entertainment and other things that Apple has had. It reinvents the definition of “tablet”

Apple does not have the first web store ever. But it unified apple users need in one store called “appstore” you can download and buy anything you need for your apple products just in one store called “appstore”.

I believe other apple fanboy or fangirl would know much better about this than me. So, what happened, apple? Why do you stop re-inventing things? The iPhone 5, The New “New” iPad, the iPod touch 5th gen, nothing new but better ppi and camera and passbook and pathetic map.

I miss you apple. I miss you…

Podjok Koffie

Saya nggak biasanya nulis rekomendasi tempat nongkrong, restoran enak, kafe, tempat minum.

Tapi nggak cuma kopi aja kok.

Makanan Ringan: Omelets  (both chicken and beef), lumpia goreng.

Pancake: SEMUANYA!! (kecuali pancake coklat soalnya coklatnya pake messes, dan saya emang nggak suka messes, jadi saya nggak suka yang coklat hahaha)

Makanan Berat: Nasi Ayam Saus Asam Manis, Nasi Sapi Lada Hitam dan Steam Rice Bolognaise.

Oiya!

Menu paket hemat seharga 12,000 rupiah saja, menu paket hematnya diantaranya:

Pancake + ice cappuccino, Nasi Sapi Lada Hitam + Ice lemon tea, Risotto + Ice lemon tea, Omelet + Ice lemon tea.

HAHAHAHAHAAHA *evil laugh*

My Device: BB ‘Huron’ 8830 World Edition – Gmail App

Before I start to write about the blackberry thingy, please let me be a cranky person for a while.

I wanted to make a blog in english that talks about international issues or politics. I thought it would be very helpful for me to keep on living on IR department. That’s why I made this blog!

But hey! check my blog!! There’s no such international issue nor politics! Hmmm, let’s see, I have some cranky-me stuffs, I uploaded photos of me and my friends, I wrote about apple, 2 posts about Susan Boyle. Hmmm, NO SERIOUS POST, NO INTERNATIONAL ISSUES, NO POLITICS ISSUES. It’s just like my other blogs in english version! Screw me!

But anyway, whatever, this is my blog, I have my own concept about my blog, and let’s say I changed my concept! From now on I’m gonna write about… err… whatever I want in this blog. BUT!! I’ll write it in english! OK! Deal!

And today, I’m gonna talk about blackberry. (See, I have no talent in writing about international nor political issues but somehow I really love to write about technology. It’s not that I’m the miss-knowing-everything-about-technology but I think it’s kinda easy to have me commenting on such things related to technology, IT, etc. This is so fixed! Choosing IR as my major is totally a wrong decision!)
