Why I Hate and Love Apple

First of all, I would like to say:

“MERRY CHRISTMAS”

I know it’s kinda late. It’s December 26 in Indonesia. 🙂

Anyway, I’m going to make a post about things that make me love apple and things that make me hate apple. I don’t mean to be the miss-know-everything about apple. I just want to make a list about things I love and hate from apple. That’s all peeps. And whether you wanna share your thought, it’s OK to leave comments or email me. 🙂

Let’s start from why I hate apple:

1. Gosh it’s EXPENSIVE!

When I bought my macbook white, it cost about US$ 1,300. A very irrational price if compared to some other laptops with same specification. iPod that I bought on March this year, it costed US$ 149 watta very expensive price for an mp4 player?? (yeah, i know, you probably argue me if i say iPod is just an mp4 player. I know it’s extraordinary. The design, the OS, the user interface are very different from ordinary mp4 player. But hey, above all it has almost the same function. Admit it, peeps). But apple has changed. Now, it’s kinda affordable!

2. They Keep Making INNOVATIONS!

What is so wrong with innovations? Maybe this questioning you why I put this in ‘things i hate from apple‘. Innovation is a good things, rite? But, in this case, I don’t like innovations!!!! I bought my macbook white 17 months ago. And couple months after I bought it, the new macbook unibody with aluminum case and a new multi-touch glass trackpad released. I didn’t care about that MBU (macbook unibody). In fact I don’t really like that aluminum unibody. And then, couple months later they released new 13-inch macbook pro. I didn’t care. I don’t need macbook pro to make my papers done. But, I said to my self: “If apple release a new macbook white with that new multi-touch glass trackpad. I’ll get mad!!!” and VOILA!! Apple released a new macbook white with that multi-touch glass trackpad! Damn! How much I want it!!! And it cost only US$ 999 cheaper than mine!!!!!

Another case happen to iPod. I bought my iPod nano chromatic on March this year. It cost US$ 149. And couple months ago apple released a brand new iPod nano chromatic WITH CAMERA AND INTEGRATED RADIO FM WITH LIVE PAUSE!!!!! And, FYI, it cost exactly the same with mine: US$ 149!!! Watta great innovation yet irritating for me. Hey! I just bought mine couple months ago and apple released the newest one with the same price! Uh-oh! How much I hate ya!!!

Luckily, I haven’t bought the wireless mighty mouse. They just released the Magic mouse that allows you to make various command from your mouse. Nice mouse! I like it better than I like mickey mouse. :p

3. It’s (IN)COMPATIBILITY.

Well, actually apple has made several changes to solve this problem. Even, now you can use windows in your mac! That’s pretty cool even though somehow people would just prefer their mac filled by its original OS: Mac OSX.

But in some case, there’re still some incompatibility if you send files from mac to windows. For example, I sent a Ms.Word file from my mac to my friend who uses windows. When my friend received the file, the file contains no spaces! There’s no spaces between words! Can you imagine how it can be read if there’s no space??? It’s kinda annoying.

Other case, I downloaded a song and it played well in my iTunes. My friend wanted to copy the song (errr, don’t you think it’s a piracy?). I copied it for her. But then, when she played it from her laptop and her cellphone, the song was broken. It didn’t play well. Some missing parts and the quality sucks. I don’t know why.

OK, enough with the hates. What else I can complain about mac and apple? Errr, I don’t know. I hope I won’t figure other thing that could make me hate apple out more.

Now, let’s see what I love from apple!

1. Catchy-yet-attractive-yet-simple DESIGN.

Can’t deny. talk about design, apple never fails me! Gosh! Can’t you see how great is iMac! It just one piece of PC! And the newest iMac? Darn you, apple! It looks so luxurious!

Let’s see other products: iPod! I never really like iPod. Until finally apple released the iPod nano chromatic. They are oh-so-adorable! I’m a typical person that judge the book by its cover. I love that iPod since the first sight! With its adorable colors and its unibody casing! Uooowwwhhh! I love that thing so much!

Macbook. All types of macbook. The apple thingy on its back is shining! LOL. Can’t deny that every time I see macbooks, I always want to buy it! I want to collect all kind of macbook! However, the design is soooo apple!

Mice? Don’t ask people! Can you see how design-able is mighty mouse and magic mouse???

I don’t know why apple‘s design is so eye catching and far from ‘norak’ style!!

2. What is Simpler than a Gadget’s SIMPLICITY?

The first thing that came up in people’s mind when they considering mac is: “I have to re-adapt with those whole new-yet-complicated-OS.”. Been there, peeps! I’m not one of those computer geeks, I’m not one of those hi-tech persons. Just a girl with her lack of deep knowledge about computer. I tried one of my friend’s macbook before I chose macbook (actually, the main reason why I chose macbook was because of its design! I love the design!!). I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to operate my macbook if I bought it. But guess what??? When I tried my friend’s macbook I just need several instruction from her then, suddenly I just could operate the macbook without any difficulty!

And when I finally bought my own macbook, I just need 1 day adaptation until finally I really understand all the applications and the system preferences. The applications are gathered in folder application. So you won’t be bother by looking for the location of the application. And the system preferences? It’s much simpler than control panel!! I don’t understand control panel AT ALL! But I can easily understand system preferences.

Other simplicities: have you met the mac trackpad, multi-touch glass trackpad, mighty mouse, magic mouse? You can use several commands straightaway from your trackpad or your mouse without pressing any button on your keyboard.

All I can say is: I love its simplicity!!!

The iMac?? Hey, it’s the first computer that needs only 3 plugs to turn it on: the mouse, keyboard, and the power plug. VOILA! You get your desktop ready for your work!!

The macbooks? Gosh! You don’t need to turn it off too often. Just close it, if you wanna go somewhere, then open it when you need to use it. No more waiting-too-long-to-turn-on-your-laptop.

iLife? Editing songs, videos, movies, get even easier.  Organize photos, appointment, etc can be easier and easier!! That’s why I love it!!

3. I Hate to Admit It. But Yeah, INNOVATIONS Make Better!!

Let’s see!! Multi-touch glass trackpad! Heeeeyy!!! what a great innovation! It’s OUTSTANDING!! You can swap the applications with your fingers straight away from your trackpad. You can rotate the photos just by make a round movement with your fingers straightaway from the trackpad! When you use the mighty mouse, there’s no border in scrolling everything! It has 360 degrees rotating scroll wheel! And the magic mouse? Errrr, just check this out by yourself. Click here!

iPhone????? Watta breakthrough phone! With 100% touchscreen! Great application, great OS, great fingering command! OH MY GOD! An adorable phone despite of its weakness in battery life.

4. The OS Never Fails Me!!!!

One biggest difference between apple and others’ products is the Operating System. It uses macintosh OS X. The iPod uses its own software. The iPhone uses its own OS. And all I could say is the OS is very friendly and can make me comfortable in using it.

I’ve used my mac for more than a year and found a very little error. It runs smoothly. Just couple solvable problems I met. The only problem I face now is: My hard disk is about to be full. LOL.

No need to worries about viruses. I can plug all flashdisk from my friends without any worries that my mac could infected from viruses.

5. The First Aid Kit: THE COMMUNITY

Thanks God, as a minority in this computer world (compared by windows, I could say that mac users are minority), mac users have initiative to make such a “mac community”. There’re lots of mac community out there. I think it exists in every state.

In Indonesia for example, I join a mac community named MWI (Indonesian’s Mac-User Community). Every time I find problems in my mac, all I need is open my browser, type: www.mac.web.id on the address bar, log in to the forum, write my problems there, and couple minutes later, a reply usually appear from other mac-user.

And they are really friendly, supportive, and helpful. We share lotta things. Even the silliest question will be answered by them patiently. When I was a newbie in mac world, I asked lots of silly question about mac and apple. And they replied my answer. If I posted a repost-post, they’d tell me and gave me the link to the previous solvable-threads.

So far, I don’t need to bring my mac to be hospitalized (repair). Me (with helps from the mac community) can solve all problems related to my mac. Thanks guys!! 🙂

Err, what else I can write here? I don’t know. Conclusion? I can’t make a conclusion actually. People can have their own thoughts about apple. I can not decide which one is better. Mac or windows. Both have minuses and pluses. And like what I’ve mentioned above, I just wanna share my thought about what I hate and what I love from apple. That’s all.

And last word from me:

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and Happy Holiday peeps!

May your last days of this year gonna be great! And happy welcoming 2010!!! 😀

  1. There is a single rule in technology that is even more prevalent than Moore’s Law and it covers absolutely every type of technology and every technology manufacturer.

No matter what product you buy or who you buy it from, in 3 months a newer, better, sometimes cheaper replacement will be released that will turn your new tech into obsolete tech.

That’s life, you just learn to live with it.

    • yeah! but in my opinion, apple’s replacement products somehow contain great update such as that multi-touch glass trackpad, the iPod with camera, the magic mouse, etc. If the updates are for several things like the RAM, the graphics card, etc maybe I wouldn’t care. I don’t really understand that things. LOL (like what I said in my post, I’m not one of those hi-tech persons).

Anyway, thanks for your comment 🙂

  2. The other great thing about Apple is that prices hold up – they cost a few dollars more but look at used mac pricing and used PC pricing. almost no one wants a used PC but a used mac – multiple bids so re-sell it at nearly anytime to buy a new apple anything! Just look at the iphones – you can sell any used one for around $300 – any other used cell phone selling for as much?

    • I bought my macbook US$ 1,300 and now I can sell it for about US$ 800. Do you think it holds up?
But yeah, that’s rite if people still want used mac. Used PC usually stay at storehouse. But used mac can be used by other people. :p
Most of my friends do that. They sell their old mac to buy the new macbook. But I’m not that typical person who loves selling things. I love my stuffs. Just like my macbook. I’m not gonna sell it even though I want the new macbook white badly.

      thx for your comment 🙂

  4. It’s a nice article you managed to create here. However, I’d like to express my personal opinion. While Apple products are indeed innovative and stunning, it all depends on where we live, and what kind of market is available. In Indonesia, there’s not a lot of space for Apple products, and only a certain group of people are willing to use it. Therefore, this creates a kind of exclusivism within our community. Whether that is a problem to you or not, is obviously relative. Just something to think about though. Second, when it comes to re-selling, Apple products are generally tougher to sell due to lack of interest and rarity. I’ve had difficulties selling my iPod, but it was possible. But again, that might not present a problem.

Oh yeah, I’ve been wondering, why didn’t you get an iPhone? You’d be a complete Apple nerd. Hha.

    Cheers.

    • Omaigad! Aussie! Never imagine you would comment on my post! That’s rite about the exclusivism!
In re-selling apple products, you can join to some apple users forum to sell it, or maybe you can ask your friend who already joined in that kind of forum to sell your iPod. Lots of people want to buy secondhand apple products there.

Why I didn’t get an iPhone? The answer is so simple: I have no money! LOL. I’d buy all of apple products if a rich handsome guy would marry me someday. Hha.

  5. Happy holiday, sapigila.

    i love apple, too, darla!
or maybe its a lust? LOL!

enihoo, my apartment was totally abandoned, my dear, hihi, i’m afraid of the earthquake, so i move back to my house. *analogical chaosy. :p

but still if you want to come, just add @ dheaditya.multiply

    • Happy holiday, kak dhejih! 😀

Hha, everything related to apple is a lust, sist!
FYI, the biggest different between windows users and mac users:
windows users like to look at sex on their computers but mac users like to have sex with their computer. LOL.

i still don’t understand why you call it your apartment. hhe. mine is abandoned as well, i just started writing there again couple days ago.

i’ll see ya in your apartment! 🙂

  6. “there’re still some incompatibility if you send files from mac to windows. For example, I sent a Ms.Word file from my mac to my friend who uses windows. When my friend received the file, the file contains no spaces! There’s no spaces between words! Can you imagine how it can be read if there’s no space??? It’s kinda annoying.”

Talk to MS it’s their software…I don’t have any of these issues with Adobe Software…MS’s problem not Apple’s.

    • O i c. So it’s not apple’s problem?? Love to hear that 🙂
But, when I use iWork from my mac and open the file from windows, it was a total mess!! 😦
I don’t have any of there issues with Adobe as well. Just once when the file size was too big to be opened from PC that just have 256MB RAM. :p

      anyway, thx for your comment.

  7. wow, a very good review. I was considering to buy macpro, but i waited for some reviews to talk about certain cases of it.
it’s pretty informative. yet, we cannot conquer apple’s innovations. it sucks, it hurts us. LOL

    • Mute. Don’t buy macpro! If you buy macpro! I’ll envy you for the rest of my life!
I think, once you buy macpro, you don’t have to worry about apple’s innovations. Macpro is too advance compared to other apple products. Tell me if you have bought it, te! I will come to your place and try using the most luxurious apple product!! Hihihihi
